Most of us are in the down-swing of another sweltering summer, but it’s not too late to remember some important safety tips for our kids. How about a quick refresher? Here are just a few things to keep in mind to keep those youngsters healthy and happy.
1. Shield from the sun. There are a lot of great sun-protective clothes out there now. Even if you don’t have those, you can dress your kids in a tight-weave cotton and stick to the shade. If you have to be out in the sun (especially during peak times between 10 am and 4 pm), make sure you use a sunscreen with and SPF of at least 15 on those kids over 6 months, and cover up those tiny ones under six months of age. Oh, and don’t forget those shades!
2. Beat the Heat. With record temps this summer all over the country, this is a biggie! Make sure those active kids are staying hydrated, and wearing lightweight breathable clothing, even at sports practices!
3. Playing at the Pool. Never leave children unattended in a pool, regardless of age or swimming ability. Also, remember those “no running” signs? They’re around for a reason. Some pool injuries occur outside the water. Keep a close eye on all children, and keep rescue equipment handy! It’s always a great idea to have an adult present who knows CPR. Find a class near you!
Keep these safety tips in mind so you and your kids can enjoy those final weeks of summer!
